Snow Creek Studios is getting ready to celebrate its one year anniversary with some very exciting news. Owner and artist, Chris Messer, has been recognized by Watercolor Artist magazine as “One to Watch”. In the December issue, Chris is featured in two separate areas of the magazine. She is the first listed artist in the “Ones to Watch” article among nine other uniquely talented artists. She is also showcased on the final page of the magazine in an article titled “The Start of Something Good” where she explains the importance of “good bones” in a painting. This is a concept that she emphasizes in her classes. She was contacted by the magazine in May and asked to submit several images, accompanied by brief descriptions. A few months later she was informed that her work had been accepted. The issue is currently for sale at the Snow Creek Studios. Anyone who has visited Chris’ gallery has been exposed to her varied creative talent including watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, embossing, linocuts, knitting, and weaving.
Snow Creek Studios’ first year has been a great success on many levels. As a supporter of the community, Chris has happily donated paintings to many fundraising events. She is also always willing to talk art and offer advice to budding artists. This support has been reciprocated by those who have expressed their appreciation for the beautiful addition to downtown. From the subtle pewter tiles in the rock face outside to the solar powered modern interior to the moveable carpeted walls, Snow Creek Studios has attracted many visitors over the past year. Every month, coinciding with the Fourth Friday Art Walk, the gallery is rearranged to offer a unique, fresh visit. The art walks have proven to be a lively event and an opportunity to catch up with Chris and her latest creative venture.
The evolution of Snow Creek Studios will continue in 2014 with more exhibited artists and a variety of classes and workshops being offered both in the studio and online. This year Chris taught a number of different classes including Beginner Watercolor, Intermediate Watercolor, Drawing and Mixed Media. A filming system is in the works, which will enable local students to refer back to sessions while others can take classes from afar. Snow Creek Studios will also be inviting other artists to teach, further expanding this aspect of the gallery.
The gallery is planning a one year anniversary holiday party for December 20th from 5pm-8pm to thank the community for its support. Please visit our Events & Workshops page or come visit the gallery at 416 N. Mt. Shasta Blvd. for more info on the holiday party and 2014 classes.
